Islamic Geometric designs using Scratch

On Monday we looked at geometric patterns and how and why they are used in Islam.  This was linked to our Theme of Ancient Civilisations.

We then used Scratch to write our own computer Code that generated our own designs! We took pictures of them on our iPads and created a quick Pic Collage to share our patterns.

We have also added the photos to our websites!

Silent Movies

After reading Hugo Cabret we were inspired to create our own silent movies.

We started off by getting into groups of four and planning a storyboard.  We thought about different camera angles, use of expression and many other ways we could make our films fantastic!  Once we had a clear idea in our heads about what we wanted to do, we went off around the school and filmed our movies on our iPads using iMovie.

After that, we added in transitions and written speech.

To give our movies an authentic 1920s feel we added music.

We then used this form to evaluate all the movies.

Solid, Liquid and Gas!

Year 5 have been learning about solids, liquids and gasses this week.  We learnt about their properties and some ways they are similar and different.

Instead of writing all of this information down on paper, we were more creative and showed our knowledge by having a dance and making these amazing videos using iMovie on our iPads!

Click on this link or scan the QR Code to see our videos!  We would love to read your comments.

Mystery Books!

The children in Year 5 have created Myster Book posters that will be displayed in the library and around the school.  Children selected a book and wrote a series of clues, such as, the author, main characters and setting, to help readers guess the book.

The poster also includes a QR code that can be scanned to display the front cover of the book.

Have a go with this example or click here to view all of our posters!

Year 5 Comics

Shark Class have used the film Pigeon Impossible from The Literacy Shed to create their own comics.  First, I Air Dropped the video to their iPads so they could watch it.  The children then took screen shots and imported them into PicCollage to think about what the characters could be saying to each other.  Then they imported the film into iMovie and cut it so they all had a short piece of film each to focus on.  They then took more screen shots and imported them into Comic Maker HD.  Finally they added in speech and some description to create our class comic!
Later this week we will be using our comics to look at speech punctuation.  We would love to hear what you think of our comic!

Google Sketch Up

We have been reading the book Hugo Cabret in class.  In the book, Hugo does not live in a very nice house so we have designed him a new one!  The children started off with a basic house shape and used the different tools in Google Sketch Up to create the house of their dreams where Hugo can live!

The children then discovered that they could add in cars, animals and even swimming pools!

What do you think of our designs so far?

Aliens have landed!

This morning Shark Class visited Year 3 to help with their Space Launch Pad.  The Year 3 children had to complete a number of different space related activities set by their teachers.

Year 5 helped the Year 3 children to use PhotoBooth on the iPad to turn themselves into Aliens.  They then imported the photo into ChatterKids and recorded their ideas about what they wanted learn.  The children came up with some great ideas!

Once they had all recorded their ideas, Year 5 used iMovie to put the clips together to create one film.  The final film was then airdropped to the Year 3 teachers iPad and AirPlayed onto the interactive whiteboard for all the children to share their ideas!

Shark Class did a great job of teaching the Year 3 children and used all the apps below!

Word Cloud

In Shark Class we created our own Connective Word Cloud using an iPad app.  We then used these connectives to join our sentences together for our Key Note presentation ready for our Landing Pad!  We can not wait to show these to our parents as we are all very proud of them!

Here is a Word Cloud created from the most popular words in our blog!
