Silent Movies

After reading Hugo Cabret we were inspired to create our own silent movies.

We started off by getting into groups of four and planning a storyboard.  We thought about different camera angles, use of expression and many other ways we could make our films fantastic!  Once we had a clear idea in our heads about what we wanted to do, we went off around the school and filmed our movies on our iPads using iMovie.

After that, we added in transitions and written speech.

To give our movies an authentic 1920s feel we added music.

We then used this form to evaluate all the movies.

Book Week!

This week is BOOK WEEK at Hornbill and on Monday we started off the week by dressing up as our favourite book characters!  We had a great catwalk in assembly to show off our costumes!

There are lots of great events planned throughout the week, so look out for the photos!

We are keeping a count of how many books that we read, please complete this form to add to the total! See how many books you have all read in assembly on Friday!

Please add a comment to tell everybody what you think about book week, share your favourite book or tell us about your favourite character!

Solid, Liquid and Gas!

Year 5 have been learning about solids, liquids and gasses this week.  We learnt about their properties and some ways they are similar and different.

Instead of writing all of this information down on paper, we were more creative and showed our knowledge by having a dance and making these amazing videos using iMovie on our iPads!

Click on this link or scan the QR Code to see our videos!  We would love to read your comments.

Mystery Books!

The children in Year 5 have created Myster Book posters that will be displayed in the library and around the school.  Children selected a book and wrote a series of clues, such as, the author, main characters and setting, to help readers guess the book.

The poster also includes a QR code that can be scanned to display the front cover of the book.

Have a go with this example or click here to view all of our posters!
